Amphitrite (2022)
In greek mythology, Amphitrite was goddess of the sea, a nereid, and the wife of Poseidon. The nereids embodied the beauty, grace, and wonder of the ocean, and Amphitrite ruled with these qualities in contrast to Poseidons stormy and often violent nature. I grew up swimming in the ocean every weekend, and I also grew up obsessed with greek myths. Despite the stories of lost ships, unfortunate sailors, and vengeful gods, I imagined other myths taking place by the beauty of the sea - the sun glinting off of its surface, dolphins playing in the distance. This piece is an ode to my favorite childhood days in the ocean and in the waves.
